Spring Tips from Stila's Sarah Lucero
Some of our Sephora editors are in the midst of the fall 2011 ready-to-wear shows in New York, but don’t forget—it’s just about springtime for the rest of us! What will you be changing in your makeup routine for the new season? We asked Stila makeup artist Sarah Lucero (pictured left, on location for Rebecca Minkoff's spring 2011 campaign) to share with us her top tips for spring makeup looks.
BOLD BEAUTY
Bright colors were all over spring runways and made their way to makeup. Bright eyes (pictured right, for Stila) were the biggest trend I noticed—I love how a single shade can make such a strong statement. It’s about letting one feature shine and standout, while the rest support it and balance it out. The hottest shades were Kelly green, purple, dusty blue, and burnt sienna. Color is optimistic and fun—just as makeup should be.
Stila products to use: Going Green Eye Shadow Trio, Afterhours Eye Shadow Trio, Smudge Stick Waterproof Liners, and Prime Pot in Caramel Shade (used on all skin tones as a creamy caramel tone and base)
VELVET LIPS
Lips were heavily saturated with pigments in reds, hot pinks, and bright oranges. The texture represented a velvet-rich cupcake with full coverage. The strong lip statement worked well against the satin skin that we created backstage.
Stila products to use: Long Wear Liquid Lip Color in Caprice and Fiery, Long Wear Lip Color in Lover, Exhilarating, and Outrageous, and Convertible Color
SATIN SKIN
Spring is all about sheer textures and lightweight fabrics (pictured left, from Jenni Kayne's spring 2011 runway show). Makeup should match the weight of your clothing and feel effortless. Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 allowed the Stila team to work this silky finish on the models, creating the perfect look. I love this oil-free formula for its flexible finish and smooth texture. It truly creates flawless, natural-looking skin on all skin types and tones.
