MAC Pigments

24 May 2010
MAC used to carry their pigments in a 7.5gram container, but they’ve since reduced the size to 4.5g and forgot to reduce the damn price Womp! Oh well, there isn’t much we can do about it now, what’s done is done…
I swatched almost all of these with a very thin base of Too Faced Shadow Insurance just so they’d stick better. I removed each swatch with a moist makeup remover wipe, and unfortunately, one of the swatches suffered because of it. True Chartreuse isn’t chalky at all, but it looks that way because of the swatch. My arm was still damp, and that particular pigment is a matte shade. I may re-swatch, but for now, that one will have to do.
Enough chit-chat, let’s just get it on with the MAC pigment pr0n!

I collect these. Out of all the makeup I have, my pigments are my most valued possession. They are the one item I buy just to have. I absolutely use them, but I still collect them. You may collect stamps, shoes, coins, men or women…my drug of choice is pigments
If you’re interested in buying pigment samples (trust me, most sample sizes are enough! I still have some from 2006) then check out Cheryl’s Shiny Eyes store. She sells 100% authentic MAC pigment samples and you can fully trust her. Please avoid buying pigments and pigment samples from Ebay unless it’s from any of these sellers. You can also buy full-size MAC pigments directly from MAC stores, or the website. Pigments will soon be available to buy from MAC counters in the near future. If you live near a CCO, they usually always have a few discontinued colors on stock — which reminds me, I need to go to my CCO and see if they have anything I don’t have.
I apologize for the lack of posts over the past 4 or 5 days, but I’ve seriously been super busy with work related stuff. I’m frustrated because it’s been keeping me from my own blog, but sometimes that has to happen I have to learn how to manage my time better so I can not only do my work, but still keep this place up and running at a decent pace. I do promise to try very hard not to let any more than two days tops go by without an update. If anything does happen that keeps me away that long, I’ll let you all know on twitter. Thanks for your patience

So really quick, I’ve been collecting MAC Pigments since 2004. My very first pigment was Melon. I fell in love with it, and developed an instant addiction. Next thing you know, its 2010 and 79 pigments later, here we are. I’m still on the lookout for the ones I don’t have or the ones that are truly unique. That new jar size though? PFFT! I refuse! I am so pissed off about the new pigment jar size it’s not even funny. Who cares if I won’t use a whole container in one lifetime — that’s not the point! The point is that you don’t reduce the size of the product without reducing the price. No ma’am Anyway, I sadly don’t own even some of the regular popular colors, but I have a few rare ones, and quite a few discontinued pigments. How strong is my love for MAC pigments? To put it bluntly…if my building were on fire, I’d grab my dog, my macbook, and my pigments (and as many of my MAC brushes as possible). Everything else can burn the hell up for all I care.
WHAT ARE PIGMENTS?
Pigment is a highly concentrated loose colour powder that contains ingredients to help it adhere to the skin. Create a subtle wash of colour or an intense effect. Does not streak or cake. Easy to blend and long-lasting. Please note: Pigments are sold by weight not volume. Containers can appear to be less than full due to settling of the product.MAC pigments are one of the most versatile items you could purchase. They can be used for different things such as nail color, hair color, eyeshadow, blush, highlight, lip colors and more. You have to be careful and read the labels though, because not every pigment is eye or lip safe. You can even press your pigments into an eyeshadow palette so that you don’t have to worry about a large cumbersome jar. They can also be used wet or dry, which is a huge bonus. Using them wet also intensifies their true color.

Oh my god, that took entirely too long! I have about nine glitters so far, but will swatch those later. My arm was about to kick my ass with all of the wiping and reapplying. Excuse any typos, and visual booboo’s.RESHA, WHY DO YOU HAVE SO MANY PIGMENTS?

Lovely Lily
I made a purple look using a pigment I don't think I've ever tried more than once or twice, MAC Lovely Lily pigment. I was pleasantly surprised with this product. It is not gritty on the lid, applied very smoothly even when used dry, and it's just a lovely light lilac that went great with the purples used in this look. I also used one of my favorite medium purples from MAC, Shale. It's a beautiful crease color and also a blender color to blend the light and darker eyeshadows.
I also used Shadowy Lady on the outer V and crease, mixed with a tiny bit of Modern Heir.
I used Baby Petals to highlight.
I also used for the first time a combination of MAC Face and Body foundation and MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. I used two light layers of the Face and Body foundation in C3, set by the MSF Natural in Medium Plus. I am so happy that these are exactly my shades. I can't believe how exactly these shades matched my skintone. Watch out for my review of these two face products soon!
I may be a trifle late on this, but I am loving On A Mission beauty powder blush from the Style Warrior collection. The plummy/berry color fully complements my warm complexion, and I like how it looks dark in the pan but just perfect on the skin. It applies like a dream on the skin, and is not splotchy at all. As with all beauty powder blushes, it gives this alluring subtle sheen that is so hard to resist.
I used the very pretty To Swoon For lipstick from last year's Holiday Adoring Carmine: 3 Lips set.
I used MAC Cremesheen glass in Ever So Rich.
Here's a step-by-step. All products MAC unless otherwise stated.
Apply Bare Canvas paint all over lid and lower lashline. Using a fluffy shader brush, apply Fresco Rose paint pot on the lid.
Using Loew Cornell Maxine's Mop 3/8" brush (or the 239 brush), apply Lovely Lily pigment on the lid dry in patting motions.
Using the 224 brush, apply Shale on the crease.
Using the Sonia Kashuk blender brush, apply Shadowy Lady mixed with a tiny bit of Modern Heir on the outer V. Blend with the 224.
Apply a little bit of Shale to blend gradient colors together.
Add a little bit of Shadowy Lady with the Sonia Kashuk blender brush as needed. Blend with the 224.
Using Stila brush no. 5, apply Baby Petals on the browbone to highlight. Using the Sonia Kashuk bent eyeliner brush, apply Blacktrack fluidline on the upper lashline.
Using the tip of the Essence of Beauty concealer brush, apply Lovely Lily on inner lower lashline, and Shadowy Lady mixed with Modern Heir on outer lower lashline. Rim eye (waterline and tightline) using Victoria's Secret kohl liner in Black Velvet. Apply Revlon self-adhesive falsies in Intensifying. Apply mascara to weave the false and natural lashes together.
FACE:
Monistat gel as primer
MAC Prep + Prime Refined Zone on t-zone
MAC Face and Body Foundation in C3
MAC mineralize skinfinish Natural in Medium Plus
MAC Sculpt powder to contour
MAC On A Mission beauty powder blush
LIPS:
Jordanna lipliner in Nutmeg
MAC lipstick in To Swoon For
MAC Ever So Rich cremesheen glass
